Tamil Nadu Tourism has decided to develop and promote rural tourism : To Showcase Rural life, art , Culture and Heritage of rural locations in villages, to benefit the local community economically, to establish social interaction between tourists and local population for a mutually enriching experience. Children of the Urban area does not have any knowledge about the villages and their goodness. Many elders are now keen enough to educate their children with features and nativity of the villages, its people and practices.
UNDP along with Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has covered 36 sites in Rural Tourism across the country. These pilot projects had many things to offer in terms of learning about the intersection between the community dynamics and tourism project. This is beyond the primary objective of mere economic augmentation, aims to put it on much larger platform of community development.
